My Farpoint Schedule
It’s hard to believe that this will the 21st Farpoint convention but I am looking forward to it as I always do. Now that’s its local, it has a slightly different vibe for me and I have kiddingly offered my students extra credit for attending (I’ll be curious who I may actually see there).
Meantime, my full schedule starts Friday afternoon so I transition from teacher to guest with barely a break.
Playing in Someone Else’s Sandbox, 6 p.m.-7 p.m. Chesapeake 1
Aaron Rosenberg, Allen Dean Foster, Mike Friedman. Allyn Gibson, Marianne Petrino‐Schaad and I will chat about media tie-ins. I’m delighted to be sharing the dais with the legendary Mr. Foster, whom I have only previously met once before.
Farpoint Book Fair, 11:00-Midnight Dulaney Valley 1
The Crazy 8 Press team will be on hand in case you missed one of our titles.
Me, 10:00 a.m.-11 a.m., Greenspring
Aided by Glenn Hauman, I’ll hold forth for an hour about writing, editing, teaching and showing off the usual assortment of trailers.
Crazy 8 Press, 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m., Chesapeake 1
Russ Colchamiro, Peter David, Mike Friedman, Glenn Hauman, Aaron Rosenberg, and I will foreshadow what is coming in 2014 along with the trials and tribulations of running a small digital press. Unfortunately, Paul Kupperberg won’t be on hand.
Crazy 8 Press Autograph Table, 2:00-3:00 p.m. Atrium Front
Most of us will go from our panel room to the round robin autographing table. However, we’ll have our dedicated table in the dealer’s area so you can find us at your convenience. I won’t be there because I’ll be at…
All Kinds of Writing Workshop, 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., Parlor Room 308
Led by the estimable Howard Weinstein, Kelly Meding, Dave Galanter, Bob Jones, and I will once more take eager beginners on a journey. Since I’ll be teaching Creative Writing next year, I intend on taking lots of notes.
How to Write for Different Media, 10:00 a.m.-11 a.m. Chesapeake 2
David Mack and I are scheduled to talk about writing for books, television, comics, etc. We expect to be joined by several of our peers.
Bob & Howie Show, 11:00-Noon, Greenspring
In an act of utter blasphemy, we’ve been bumped back an hour, mostly to accommodate Sci-Fi Squares which needs extra set up and break down time. The odd thing is I’m scheduled to once more be the center square and appear on the Different Media panel. This is what you call a challenge!
Star Trek: Onscreen, Online, or On Paper?, Noon – 1 p.m., Dulaney Valley 1
Continuing our conversation from earlier in the morning, David Mack and I will focus on Star Trek in its current condition.
The Marvel Movie Universe, 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., Dulaney Valley 2
Andrew Kelley and I, and hopefully joined by others, will examine what’s working and needs improvement in the cinematic universe as we anticipate what’s coming with this year’s film offerings.
