I find my comic book reading diet to be almost exclusively titles from DC and Marvel with a smattering from IDW. Now that Strangers in Paradise is over, I seem not to have anything on my pull list from the non-majors except Amelia Rules.What’s out that, not from DC (Vertigo, WildStorm, CMX, et, al.) or Marvel that you find personally satisfying and wish to recommend?Also, which web comics are worth a look?Thanks in advance for your participation.
Check out PS 238, a comic about superpowered kids in an elementary school just for them. There are four trades out so far, and there’s a website at http://www.ps238.com.For webcomics, I enjoyed Queen of Wands, which is now at an end so it tells a full story. And Something Positive is good, and has been for a long time.
Just some graphic novels to recommend:Scott Pilgrim the series from (Oni Press).Andi Watson’s Glister; (Or anything by Watson is good; his collection Paris is coming soon as well.Eddie Campbell’s The Fate of the Artist is incredible.Anything by Scott Morse (http://scottmorse.blogspot.com/)Jamie Rich’s Love the Way You Love is a fun boy with band meets girl sort of thing.Anyhow, none of these are monthlies (Glister is bi-monthly?) Definitely worth looking at any of them.
Bob…. Personally, I haven’t read a lot lately, mainly because I havent really seen anything that has caught my eye like Miller’s “Dark Knight” & “300” or Starlin’s “Dreadstar”. Or even “Camelot 3000” was a really cool book.Get me something like that…not like the homogenized version of X-Men we keep being force-fed.Bob Ahrens

Non DC (and related companies) and Marvel comics I read:Buffy (Dark Horse)Fallen Angel (IDW)I also have Age of Bronze (Image?) on my pull list, but haven’t seen an issue in well over a year.(For the record, I don’t read any Marvel or DC Universe comics at present, and of the Vertigo stable only read Fables and Jack of Fables. I also read Usagi Yojimbo (Dark Horse) until about a year ago, when I dropped it for economic reasons.)I enjoy both Buffy and Fallen Angel, though the nearly $4.00 price tag of the latter makes me reconsider whether to keep getting it. For now, it’s still on my list, but the day may come when I’ll drop it because of the cost and hope that maybe one day there’ll be a trade edition (or editions). Still, it is a good book.One thing I especially like about Buffy is that it includes a letters column. Let’s hope this is the start of a trend.I also pick up the very sporadically published Radioactive Man from Bongo Comics. I first encountered that title about a decade ago in the form of a six-issue mini series (with “issue numbers” nowhere near 1-6 (except maybe #1 itself)). It had some great political satire, as well as comics-related satire.It’s no longer published in comicbook format (the story having concluded), but it is still in print in trade paperback and similar formats, so among my recommendations I’ll include Bone by Jeff Smith. I recently introduced my nephew to the story via the Scholastic editions.Rick

Blummer, the comic book artist, contact you. Since your hotmail address doesn’t work, this seems to be my only recourse.Jon L. (Lester) Blummer died in 1955. His son, Jon Leslie Blummer died in 1998, around the holidays, I’m pretty sure it was Christmas Eve.I’m one of his grandchildren, from Jon Leslie’s first wife, Sharon. Neither I nor my brother have much knowledge of Jon Lester Blummer; and precious little of Jon Leslie Blummer, as he and our mother divorced when I was an infant and my brother was a toddler.I would be happy, though, to share what little I do know.
I don’t read much reg’lar comics anymore. The only really “new” thing I’m reading was the first two issues of Steven Grant’s “Two Guns” mini-series. Anxiously awaiting the next four…And if you want to go back to the past and get caught up you really really need to read Carla Speed McNeil’s “Finder” starting with the two-part Sin Eater books. Carla doesn’t do single issues anymore, but serializes the new work on her website:http://www.lightspeedpress.com/Also, I’m not reading current single issues of “Castle Waiting” and waiting for a collection, but that book is aaaaamazing.
Hmmm. If you are looking for non-superhero material, I would highly recommend 2000 A.D.
