Fitting in the Freelance Work

Posted on

Now that I have the school rhythms down, I have come to recognize how much time is leftover for freelance work. Ideally, I’d be able to line up my projects one after the other, nice and neat. Life, however, is rarely nice or neat. The high school is off for winter break next week and I figured I’d be able to read and relax a bit after returning from Farpoint but overlapping freelance jobs have scuttled that notion.I am at work on a project with some pals that has a short deadline and nice pay day so it was hard to resist. I’ve already gotten a nice chunk of my portion drafted which is good but next week I need to do a heck of a lot more on it.Then there’s some research I am doing for another client which could prove long-term and, while somewhat tedious, requires someone with comics experience and that’s me. I have a kickoff meeting for that on Tuesday. My two graphic novels for Zenescope’s Silver Dragon imprint also chug along. The Dinosaur book is nearing completion. I should have the bulk of the color in hand by the end of the weekend while we get the Animals book off the ground. This has been a great experience and lots of fun so I hope Discovery Channel is happy enough with the product and their sales that will commission more. Finally, on Saturday we officially start talking about Crazy 8, something new that has been percolating since last summer. We’ll talk more about that in the coming days. In the meantime, I have plenty to do and it certainly is stretching my creative muscles while my brain gets stuffed with educational theory.
