By setting modest, attainable goals, I managed to feel very good about my week off. Amazingly, by Friday, I was genuinely feeling rested, a state of being that persisted until the alarm went off this morning.Unlike last break in February, I had papers to write and two essays to revise and another two to write. And that was it. I didn’t over-plan but frontloaded the week to make certain it got done, and gave me a lighter end of the week or accommodate Kate’s visit.The best part is that everything worked out. The school papers got knocked off one at a time and I managed to sign in for the two summer courses I need to satisfy the state’s requirements. I also ordered all the books, which have started arriving, while the grad class that begins in two weeks has yet to post any of the reading.The essay revisions were to satisfy their word count requirements in certain sections which were easier than I imagined. I then had fun researching and writing about (for the third time) Walter Simonson’s run on Thor and Mark Schultz’s underrated Cadillacs & Dinosaurs.Kate arrived late Wednesday and doesn’t go back to Maryland until tomorrow morning so it’s been a delight having her here. She, like me, appears to be resting, letting the body and soul recharge.Saturday and Sunday, I felt incredibly relaxed. Productive in some ways, but with no sense of stress or the feeling of weight on my mind. I haven’t felt like this in a long, long time. As a result, as I settled on the couch at my brother-in-law’s house yesterday, no sooner did the Mets win their fourth game in a row that I drifted off for a while – a rare afternoon nap.As a result, when the alarm went off at 6:10 this morning, I sprang out of bed, feeling somewhat energized and ready to take on not only this week, but the final two weeks of the spring semester of grad school.
