I’ll Briefly be on Television Tonight

So, back in December, I was invited to come talk about the Batmobile. I was going to one of maybe a dozen people to riff about the iconic vehicle for a featurette destined for the DVD released of The Dark Knight Rises. It was my first experience being a talking head and I spent about an hour-plus of interview time, joking that they’d use maybe 30 seconds.I was more recently asked if I had copies of some of the pictures I mentioned and could I send them a picture of the bookshelf full of Batmobiles I had. The former was easy, the latter was accomplished thanks to Deb. Tara Tremaine, the producer, told me she was editing two versions, one 22-minutes, the other closer to an hour. Then, just days ago, I saw the shorter version was being shown at San Diego and a day later, received word it was scheduled to air on the CW network. Tara confirmed I made the cut and I couldn’t wait to see it for myself.I sat in the audience of the programming room on Thursday night, stunned to see 1000 people packed in to hear about the iconic car. George Barris, who designed the classic television vehicle, led an all-star lineup of people for a fun panel. Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham, who bought and restored one of the Tim Burton models, was on hand as were the engineers who worked on the other movie vehicles along with Batfan/producer Michael Uslan. The 22-minute piece was extremely well received and I was surprised at how much my material was used in the first half.Official Press ReleaseThe broadcast network premiere of the new half-hour special on the history and evolution of the Batmobile – THE BATMOBILE – will air on Monday, July 16, 8:00-8:30pm ET on The CW.
