The dogs are accompanying us on an outing, away from the world for the most part. It’s not that we need the solitude, but it helps. Each year brings us closer to that odd point of equilibrium, as many years without Robbie as with.
Recently, one of his two closest friends had a child and named him Robbie. That now makes three members of the next germination to bear some part of his name, an unexpected legacy that warms our hearts.
There are still times when something we’re watching or reading forces us to pause and wipe our eyes. It continues to hit us out of the blue and I am so thankful we have one another to lean on.
It has gotten somewhat easier to talk about him, especially here in Maryland where no one knew him outside the convention gang. I’d rather have him around than talk about him, but I wasn’t given a say in the matter.
