I love Shore Leave. I have ever since I attended my first, which happened to have been their third. And here we are, at Shore Leave 36 and the show has settled into a nice rhythm. It has always been kind to writers and over the last 15 years or so, the number of authors has steadily grown although this year there feels to be an explosion of new faces. Several, including my pals in Crazy 8 Press, have gone so far as to schedule releases timed to Shore Leave.Friday night is like a huge party as we all greet one another after too long an absence and then by 10 p.m. settle into the long corridor on the lower level where tables are set up and fans can scavenge for new books to buy and autographs to collect. There’s always a bookseller at the head of the space so fans can pick up our works, too.Crazy 8 Press will have a table throughout the weekend and you can find the six of us present (Paul Kupperberg is staying home to write).Additionally, here’s where attendees can find me:Friday10 p.m.-Midnight Meet the ProsI’ll have copies of Tales of the Crimson Keep and New Life and New Civilizations: Exploring Star Trek Comics, two of the five books debuting at the con, for sale.Saturday10 a.m. MeAn hour of chat and movie trailers, aided and abetted as usual, by Glenn Hauman.1 p.m. – 3 p.m. All Kinds of Writing WorkshopHoward Weinstein leads Kelly Meding, Harlan Jones, Dave Galanter and me through the rigors of writing for the education and entertainment of those desiring to learn the craft.Sunday10 a.m. Ann Crispin MemorialWe lost Ann last fall and she made a farewell con appearance at Shore Leave last summer. I also strongly recommend you see The Boogie Knights, featuring Kate, Saturday at 11 a.m. and if you play cards, consider being a part of the Robbie Greenberger Memorial Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament, Saturday night right after the Masquerade.
