My Farpoint Schedule

Posted on

Hard to believe, but it’s already February which also means it’s time for Farpoint. It happens to be a little different this year, their 25th. First, they’ve relocated to the Marriott Hunt Valley Inn (no matter who owns it or what they call it, that’s how we all refer to the venue). Second, it’s a weekend earlier than usual so it feels very sudden. For a number of reasons, I asked for and received a slightly less busy schedule than usual, which suits me. Here is where you can find me when I’m not at the Crazy 8 Press table:FridayBook Fair, 10 p.m.-Midnight – Come meet and talk with our author guests in a festive setting, starting right after the Farpoint 2018 Opening Ceremonies. You will have the opportunity to get books from your personal collection signed, purchase new books from your favorite authors and even find a new treasure or two!Saturday10 a.m., Valley Room – As usual, I kick off the day’s main programming, where I will update one and all on my various writing projects, my current teaching work, and whatever else folk want to know. Then, accompanied by Glenn Hauman, we’ll show off the latest trailers for 2018 genre fare coming to move theaters and TV screens. (Then, you should stick around to see Kate and the Boogie Knights perform.)Noon – 2 p.m., Salon C — Writing Workshop conducted by Howard Weinstein with his Greek chorus of Bob Jones, Kelly Meding, Dave Galanter, and me.4:00-5:00 Salon C – Crazy 8 Press. Peter David, Aaron Rosenberg, Glenn Hauman, Mary Fan, Russ Colchamiro, and I will bring everyone up to speed on what we’ve been doing and what’s coming out complete with new cover reveals.5-6:30, Hunt Room – 2018 Launch Party – Join us Saturday as we celebrate the books our author guests are premiering at Farpoint and the most recent releases from our guests. As the convention nears, watch our social media feeds for information on the authors and books that will be featured at this event. Since my Captain America novel is out, I figured I should flog it and sign a few copies.Sunday10 a.m., Valley Room — Bob & Howie Show. And of course, what is a Sunday without this programming item as Howard Weinstein and I promote out works, debate the pros and cons of what we’re watching and reading, and maybe even answer some questions.Beyond that, I am one of several writers who agreed to participate in the con’s first writing contest. We were all given an image to spark our imagination and compose short stories up to 10,000 words. Fans will be reading and voting starting tomorrow and I’m curious to see what happens.
