What am I Working on?

Posted on

When I accepted the MICA teaching assignment, the deal with Deb would be that I wouldn’t do any freelance writing. So, I’ve slowed pursuing opportunities and deferred others to when school was not in session.

The Winter break saw me research and write some 20,000 words for the forthcoming Superman: The Definitive History as I stepped in to assist Ed Gross in finishing this mammoth, slipcased hardcover.

Spring break saw me writing captions and helping craft timelines, and as far as I know, the book is wrapped and sent off to the printer.

This weekend, I completed my text for Urban Comics’ Batman Chroniclers 1990 Vol. 1.

So, what’s next? I am committed to an article about Crisis on Infinite Earths for Back Issue and a Sherlock Holmes novella for Christopher D. Abbott, who has made a nice career with his Holmes collections. It’ll certainly be nice to revisit 221B Baker Street.

I await feedback from my cowriter, Matthew Medney, on the third and final installment of Above the Ground, which is penciled in for a 2026 release and may require some work on my end.

I’m also slowly assembling the pieces for a fourth volume of Thrilling Adventure Yarns, which I hope to crowdfund in July for a 2025 release.

All of which will take some time, but not a lot. The summer is free, and that’s a first in a long, long time. I’ve been mulling over what to write, but nothing has sparked me, and I intend to take advantage of a forthcoming vacation to recharge, let the little gray cells do their magic, and see what inspires me.
